About Scottish Power

Scottish Power is one of the UK's major domestic energy suppliers, serving approximately 2.7 million households. The company traces its origins to the privatisation of the Scottish electricity industry in 1991 when it was established as a publicly listed company to take over the former South of Scotland Electricity Board.

Scottish Power was acquired by Spanish energy company Iberdrola in 2006. Iberdrola is one of the largest utility companies in the world with operations across Europe, North America, and South America. The Qatar Investment Authority became a significant shareholder in Iberdrola from 2023. Scottish Power operates under the Iberdrola group but maintains its own brand and management structure in the UK.

Scottish Power is among the most active developers of onshore and offshore wind energy in the UK through its generation division, which operates separately from its retail supply business.

Tariff types offered

Scottish Power offers fixed rate tariffs locking in rates for defined periods, typically to April or May of the following year. Variable tariffs are available as a standard option, subject to the Ofgem price cap.

Scottish Power has offered a Cap Tracker tariff, which sits marginally below the standard variable rate by a small fixed amount per fuel.

Green tariff options with 100% renewable electricity sourcing have been available. Check current product availability at your postcode.

Prepayment tariffs are available for customers with pay-as-you-go meters.
