About E.ON Next

E.ON Next is the domestic energy retail brand of E.ON UK, which is the British subsidiary of E.ON SE, a German multinational energy company headquartered in Essen. E.ON SE operates across more than 30 countries in Europe and beyond.

E.ON's UK presence began in 2002 when it acquired PowerGen, the privatised electricity generator, giving it access to the UK domestic supply market. The company subsequently traded under the E.ON brand before relaunching its domestic retail operations under the E.ON Next name in 2020, positioning it as a more digitally-focused consumer energy brand.

E.ON Next's customer base grew substantially in 2021 when npower, another major UK supplier also owned by E.ON, transferred its 6.5 million domestic customers to E.ON Next. This made E.ON Next one of the largest domestic energy suppliers in the UK, serving approximately 5.6 million households.

In May 2026, E.ON announced an agreement to acquire OVO Energy, which would bring an additional 4 million customers to the group if approved, making E.ON the UK's largest domestic energy supplier by customer numbers. The deal was subject to regulatory approval as of June 2026.

Tariff types offered

E.ON Next offers fixed rate tariffs for 12-month terms, locking in unit rates and standing charges. Variable tariffs are available as a standard option, subject to the Ofgem price cap.

E.ON Next has offered time-of-use tariffs including Next Smart Saver, which provides cheaper off-peak electricity periods including an overnight window, suited to households that can shift consumption. A smart meter is required for time-of-use products.

EV-specific tariffs offering cheaper overnight electricity rates for vehicle charging have been available. Check the partner comparison tool for current availability at your postcode.
